Training & Curriculum Overview 

Year 1 + 2 (ACGME years):  

Clinical Experience | 32 weeks  

  • 22 weeks of core rotations
  • Composed of hospital medicine, complex care, community hospital, nursery, child protection, palliative care, pain, sedation, critical care
  • 10 weeks of clinical electives
  • Including but not limited to: intermediate care (ICU step-down), NICU, procedural skills, community hospital, subspecialties (endocrinology, neurology, psychiatry, rheumatology, gastroenterology/nutrition, dermatology, cardiology, etc.) 

Scholarship Experience | 32 weeks (16 weeks/year) Individualized mentorship of scholarly work and academic products 

  • Various scholarship opportunities in clinical research, QI projects, committee membership, leadership development, medical education, health equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Masters Coursework (2nd year) 

Individualized Learning | 32 weeks (16 weeks/year)  

  • Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Program in Clinical Effectiveness
  • Completed by all rising 2nd year fellows from July-August
  • Institution-wide teaching academy and certificate
  • Attendance at national conferences, such as:
  • Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting
  • Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellows Conference
  • Pediatric Hospital Medicine Conference
  • AAP National Conference and Exhibition
  • Student National Medical Association Conferences
  • Latino Medical Student Association Conference
  • National Medical Association National Convention & Scientific Assembly 

Year 3 (non-ACGME Year):  

  • Unsupervised attending clinical weeks on pediatric hospital medicine and/or complex care services
  • Ongoing protected time to complete Master’s program 
  • Ongoing mentorship and support from division and scholarship oversight committee to work on publishing fellowship research project
